Target Audience
- We aim to target our music video at the ages of 16-25
- From collecting secondary research, we have discovered that people between the ages of 16-25 discover and listen to electronic music
- We are also able to use the previous work we have done to gain a broad understanding of the target audience of electronic music. In the music videos we have looked at already including: Mura Masa - What if I Go, Icarus - Home and Jamie XX - Stranger In the room, we can see that characters between the ages of 16-25 star in these music videos
- By continuing with a youthful appearance in our music video, our narrative will be easily to understood by our target audience rather than making it disjunctive to the upbeat tempo of the track using characters of the wrong age that can often confuse the message of the narrative. An example of this is in the music video of Duke Dumont - I Got You
- Running a narrative which includes the relationship between a male and a female will hopefully connect much stronger with this target audience as 16-25 seem to be more passionate about the genre and tend to make more of an effort to see electronic music live
- By using the questionnaire, we hope to collate a mixture of opinions towards our music videos including: visual effects, lighting, location and most importantly, our narrative
- By collecting primary data, we will be able to understand how our target audience connects to the music video as well as understanding if they believe our narrative flows with the tempo of the track
Results
- This is our second question this shows that 60% of people thought that we should choose a urban location and it is the most suitable for our song
- 20% of people both said that it should be a rural location and 20% said both this represents our choice of location as suitable
- We can see from this the majority of people didn't think that performance was important however 27% of people said that it was important but we feel that performance for our genre would be very controversial and would not fit in
- This is why we have chosen to not use performance in our genre despite some of the audience research showing that we should
- We can see in this that there is a ovveriding majority opinion that the chorus is the time where there is the most powerful imagery
- This shows us that there is a majority which think that a narrative based on a relationship is suitable for the track
Evaluation
- Most of the results show us that the idea which we have fits in well with our target audience and that our ideas are well sutied to our track
- However one of the results does show that people feel that it could be necessary to include performance which we have found is very unconventional of the genre and dont plan to include in our video
- The choices of locations, narrative, use of colours all helped to reinforce our choices of what we would like to include in our production
- Our audience research helped us to decide wether death was a appropriate topic to have in the music video as we felt that it was something we could include but after evaluating our relsults and seeing that more people thought it wasnt appropriate to include it we chose to make the ending open ended and not include death.
